Bean Bag Bowling: Instructions & Scoring

1. GAME (string): A game shall consist of ten frames (boxes) in each of which three bean bags shall be tossed, except when a player scores a strike or spare, called marks.  MARK IN FRAME 10:  A bowler scoring a strike or a spare in the tenth frame shall immediately toss one or two bean bags, as necessary, to complete that frame.

2. NO MARK: When three bean bags are tossed, the bowler receives credit for the total number of pins knocked down in the frame.

3. STRIKE: A "strike" occurs when ten pins are downed with the first bean bag. To score a strike, the bowler receives ten plus the number of pins downed by the next two bean bags tossed by that bowler.

4. SPARE: A "spare" occurs when ten pins are downed with the first two bean bags. To score a spare the bowler receives ten plus the number of pins downed by the next bean bag tossed by that bowler.

5. TWO CONSECUTIVE STRIKES: Scores as follows:

A. Frame in which first strike is made: Score 20 plus the number downed by the first bean bag tossed in the second following frame.

B. Frame in which second strike is made: Score 10 plus the number downed by the first two bean bags in the next following frame.

6. THREE CONSECUTIVE STRIKES: Score as follows:

A. Frame in which first strike is made: Score 30

B. Frame in which second strike is made: Score 20 plus the number downed by the first bean bag tossed in the second following frame.

C. Frame in which third strike is made: Score 10 plus the number downed by the first two bean bags in the next following frame.

7. CONSECUTIVE STRIKES OVER THREE: Score as per explanation in rule #6 above.

Example of How to Use a Score Card

A game consists of 10 boxes, in which not more than 3 bean bags are allowed for each box.

If all pins are felled by the first bean bag, it is a strike and is marked with a double line.

If all pins are felled by first 2 bean bags it is a spare and marked with a single line.

If all pins are felled by 3 bean bags it is a ten box and marked by an X.

A strike permits you to score ten plus a bonus of the pins felled by the 1st and 2nd bean bags of your next box.

A spare permits you to score ten plus a bonus of the pins felled by the 1st bean bag of your next box.

Scorecard Example

In the 1st box:
You fell 8 pins after 3 bean bags.

In the 2nd box:
You fell 7 pins after 3 bean bags totaling 15.

In the 3rd box:
You fell all pins with 3 bean bags.

In the 4th box:
You fell all 10 pins with 1 bean bag scoring a strike. You add the first 2 bean bags of the 5th box to the strike (10 + 5)

In the 5th box:
Finish tossing the 3rd bean bag and total down after all 3 bean bags is 9.

In the 6th box:
You fell all 10 pins in 2 bean bags scoring a spare. Your spare is worth 10 plus pins fallen from the first bean bag of the 7th box. In this case 6.

In the 7th box:
Finish tossing the 2nd and 3rd bean bag and total down after all 3 bean bags is 8.

In the 8th box:
You fell 9 pins after 3 bean bags.

In the 9th box:
You scored a strike.

In the 10th box:
You scored a spare filling your strike with a 10 and a total being 20 in your 9th box. To finish out the 10th box and your spare, toss 1 bean bag and add it to your spare (10+8=18).
